PORTLAND, Ore. (Sunday, July 12, 2026) – The 45th edition of the Cascadia Rivalry saw the Portland Thorns fall 2-0 on the road to Seattle Reign FC on Sunday afternoon at Lumen Field.
Seattle would be the ones to take an early lead in the 8th minute when defender Ryanne Brown ran down the left side of Portland’s half into the top of the box, shooting the ball into the top right corner of the net.
The Thorns would then press heavily in their search for an equalizer, registering four shots on target as they looked to get back into the match. Instead in the 43rd minute, Seattle midfielder Sam Meza’s cross found forward Maddie Mercado in the box as she headed it into the bottom right corner to double the lead for the hosts and make Portland’s uphill battle much steeper.
The Thorns continued to dominate the ball offensively after the halftime break as they fought to level, with forward Pietra Tordin getting the closest in the 61st minute when her shot inside Seattle’s box just bounced off the right post. However, Portland’s attempts could not break past the Seattle backline and the Reign held on defensively to take away three points.
