PORTLAND, Ore. (Sunday, August 9, 2026) – The Portland Thorns came out on top in a seven-goal road thriller against Boston Legacy FC on Sunday afternoon at Centreville Bank Stadium, winning the match 3-4 to put an end to its four-game winless streak and record its first road win since early May.
In the opening seconds of the match, forward Pietra Tordin drew a foul right outside the box to line up a free kick opportunity for the Thorns. Stepping up to take the shot, Tordin placed the ball into the near corner past the hands of Boston goalkeeper Casey Murphy to give Portland the lead two minutes into the match.
Portland quickly doubled its lead in the 6th minute when defender Marie Müller — who was playing on the right wing in this match — won a scramble in Boston’s final third and passed the ball to forward Sophia Wilson, who controlled the ball and poked it into the net past an incoming Murphy.
Tordin once again found herself on the scoresheet win the 9th minute. Midfielder Jessie Fleming got ahold of the ball in and passed it in the direction of Wilson, who feinted over the ball to allow it to land at Tordin’s feet and the 21-year-old did not hesitate to strike it low towards the bottom right corner.
Boston would get one back in the 31st minute when forward Samantha Smith’s cross found defender Bianca St-Georges running to volley the ball into the open near post. However, Portland responded back shortly after goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold’s long cross landed at Tordin’s feet to score her third of the match — her first career hat trick — in the 37th minute to bring Portland up to four goals.
The Legacy would once again tighten the gap when their midfield duo of Barbara Olivieri and Alba Caño linked up minutes later in the 42nd minute to score the home team’s second.
The second half was much more gridlocked between both sides and Boston managed to get a third on the scoresheet in the 82nd minute when midfielder Aleigh Gambone ran around into the Portland box and passed the ball to forward Amanda Gutierres who volleyed it into the back of the net. That would ultimately not be enough for the hosts and Portland would walk away from the field with three road points secured.
