Reilyn Turner’s 6^th goal across all NWSL comps sends Portland to the semis for the first time since 2023, Thorns record third consecutive clean sheet.

PORTLAND, Ore. (Sunday, November 9, 2025) – The Portland Thorns (#3) have advanced to the semifinals of the 2025 NWSL Playoffs after beating San Diego Wave FC 1-0 in overtime, lining up a huge road matchup at Washington Spirit next Saturday, November 15.

The first 45 minutes of action saw both sides gridlocked in search of the first goal, with Portland’s best efforts coming off forward Deyna Castellanos in the 41’ which hit the side netting followed by Olivia Moultrie’s effort in the 44’ that bounced off the post.

Upon returning to the pitch for the second half, Portland maintained its defensive composure and continued to absorb San Diego’s pressure. Despite a few chances at San Diego’s goal — including a bicycle kick effort from Reilyn Turner in the 63’ — both sides saw out a scoreless draw to head into overtime.

Four minutes into the first half of overtime, the Thorns would finally get on the scoresheet after Moultrie crossed the ball across the box to find Reilyn Turner, who connected with the header to grab the lead and send Providence Park into a frenzy. That would prove to be just enough for the Thorns who held out the rest of overtime to advance to the semifinals for the first time since 2023.

Portland will celebrate today before getting back to work to prepare for Washington Spirit at Audi Field on Saturday, November 15. Kickoff on CBS is scheduled for 12 pm ET/9 am PT.

PORTLAND, Ore. (Saturday, August 15, 2026) – The Portland Thorns continued their impressive home form with a 2-1 win over Orlando Pride on Saturday when forward Caiya Hanks — who was making her return to the pitch after missing action for over a year with an ACL injury — scored a stoppage time winner to secure three points for the home side.

Both sides battled back and forth as they tried to search for the opening goal, with Thorns goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold making three saves to ensure the match remained level going into the halftime break.

The Thorns came out into the second half much more threatening in Orlando’s half and finally broke the deadlock in the 58^th minute when forward Pietra Tordin laid the ball off to forward Deyna Castellanos, who from the top right corner of Orlando’s box placed the ball perfectly into the top left corner of the goal over the hands of Orlando goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse.

The lead was short lived however when Arnold’s diving save to punch out a crossed ball in the 63^rd minute ricocheted off the knees of Orlando forward Jacqueline Ovalle and rolled into the net to level things back up.

From there, Portland and Orlando continued in their fight to search for a second and despite several good looks at goal, the match remained level.

That would all change after Hanks — who subbed on in the 88^th minute — curled the ball into the goal from outside the box in the 96^th to send Providence Park into a frenzy as the Thorns secured three points and extended its home unbeaten streak to 12 matches, nine on the season.
