Goals from Rocky Rodríguez and Tyler Lussi led Thorns FC to a 2-1 victory over KC NWSL in the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup opener at Providence Park, a match which saw the return of fans to the stadium. The match took a wild turn at the end with multiple red cards being issued late in the contest.
